Afrigora is the global marketplace for African designs. It connects consumers around the world with creative designers of African or African-inspired goods. Our mission is to create an ecosystem and hub that allows designers to easily sell their designs at a low cost and buyers to shop with ease. Afrigora focuses on elevating the image and standard of African designs by being a trusted and transparent source to buy and sell goods.
As an Afrigora designer, you’re an integral part of creating a great brand experience for customers and collaborate in a movement to get more people to #shopafrican.
The following are guidelines and terms that all designers must abide by in order to sell on Afrigora.com. By using Afrigora you agree to abide by the following guidelines.
Failure to abide by the following will result in your designs and brand being removed from the site and pop-up experiences.
How Afrigora Works
It’s pretty simple! Our global marketplace aims at creating a one stop shop for African and/or African inspired designs. Our goal is to empower designers of African designs to do what they love and buyers to find what they love.
Our platform is built to ensure that selling your designs is easy, transparent and affordable. This is why we’ve created a curated experience that highlights only the best in African design.
Your customers may have questions about sizing or shipping or might just want to say hello. Designers will be notified when a customer sends a question or concern to their Afrigora store. Designers are responsible for responding to customer inquiries within 2 business days of being received.
Now let’s talk money. Sellers may be required to pay the following types of fees:
When you make a sale through Afrigora.com, you will be charged a transaction fee up to 12% of the price you display for each listing (unless otherwise listed). This amount is subtracted from the original listing price of the item before shipping cost, sales tax, Goods and Services Tax, or Harmonized Sales Tax, unless you have included those charges in your listing price/costs. Fees are automatically taken out of the listing price and you are paid when the customer makes a sale.
For promotional sales, commissions are taken off the sale price.
Once a sale is made your portion of the amount will automatically go into your PayPal or Stripe account. This means you will need a PayPal or Stripe account in order to start selling.
Payment Processing Fees
PayPal and/or Stripe have applicable processing fees that will apply to every. For more information on PayPal’s payment processing fees please visit paypal.com and/or Stripe.com
When you, as a designer, receives a sales, you have 2 business days to confirm receipt of that sale. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation of the purchase and funds will be refunded to the customer.
You’ve made a sale? YAY! Now it’s time to ship. All designers are responsible for shipping items directly to the buyer once a purchase is made and must provide a tracking number for the shipment. Items must be shipped within 2 business days of being purchased or the order will be cancelled and funds will be refunded to the customer. Designers must ensure they mark orders as shipped with tracking sent to the customer to avoid order cancellations. Free shipping is required. We do also recommend adding your shipping to your listing price.
Returns & Exchanges
Dealing with shipping and exchanges isn’t fun for anyone. However, to ensure our customers are happy, designers are encouraged to provide refunds and exchanges for all merchandise. Customer must request refunds/exchanges on Afrigora, which will notify the designer. Once the designer is notified, customers are responsible for returning items within 5 business days of it being received. Once the item is returned, funds will be refunded to the customer or the designer must send the replacement item if the customer is making an exchange.
Sales & Promotions
Everyone loves a good sale! Designers are welcome to discount or have promotions on their items. This can be done directly using your account and manually discounting the appropriate items. Brands that have discounted items will be promoted on our sales section and may be promoted on our homepage.
At Afrigora, we pride ourselves on our ability to highlight and select designers with high quality items that are made to perfection. Selling second hand or fake items is prohibited. Quality complaints by customers will result in your products and brand being removed from Afrigora.com.
Product Image Usage and Rights
We may use your product images from time to time to help promote your brand on our site, social media handles, emails and other marketing channels. Don’t worry if we use your image we will be sure to shout you out!
Product image Requirements
Images are everything when it comes it making that sale. Especially online. Afrigora is curated to showcase the best of African designs. We believe every designer on our platform has beautiful designs that everyone will love, so showcasing your designs in the best light possible is critical.
It’s important, that to take professional product shots of your items. We may choose to edit images a bit to help you out. We reserve the right to edit all images that are submitted to Afrigora.
Here are some do’s and don’ts to help make this easy:
- DON’T choose a cluttered or distracting background
- DO use a neutral background. This makes it easy to focus on the product and not the background.
- DON’T rely on one static shot to sell your product. Take multiple shots.
- DO shoot multiple angles. Show your product off!
- DO use good lighting
We reserve the right to reject products and images if they don’t fit the Afrigora platform.
- National origin
- Gender identity
- Sexual orientation
- Any other characteristic protected under applicable law
It is your responsibility as a seller to know your local laws and any other legal regulations on discrimination that might apply to you.
Examples of prohibited behavior on Afrigora include, but are not limited to:
- Refusal of service based on membership in one or more protected group
- Derogatory or demeaning remarks against protected groups listed above
- Racial slurs
- Posts that support or glorify current or historical hate groups
