Description
The Ghanaian name for the textile that inspires this design is Nsu Bra, an Akan word meaning “water well”. The tiny dots are meant to resemble the ripples that are formed after water has been fetched.
In Nigeria, it is referred to as “disk” or “record” for obvious reasons.
In Togo, it is known as Gbedze, which references the straw hats worn as protection from the sun by royalty.
