Nigeria’s Igbo tribe call the original fabric that inspired this design mgbolodi, which means roots. Historically, plant roots are known to be highly medicinal and may be used to cure ailments.
Metaphorically, it is referred to as legumes because just as legumes are known to enhance soil, it is said that when the fabric is worn or owned it can bring wealth and success to the owner or their family.
